Advisors and community that honour your Individual Sovereignty

Sharing this month's Successiory e-news as a blog post, just in case you need support to stand more firmly in your own individual sovereignty. I truly love September.  Even my Mommy-brain bows down to the clarity this month brings me. I can't quite explain it, but I truly appreciate how fully awake and alive I feel in my very being, at this time of year.  What brings You that sense of being exactly who and where you're meant to be, as is, right now?

As that floats into your mind, I'd like to invite you to consider your inner circle - in life and / or business, as well.  Who lifts your spirits and affirms your self confidence when you're around them?

I have observed this widely accepted (perhaps cultural) trend of condescension, among gurus, coaches, consultants and other advising professionals. In essence, whether they're:

  • congratulating a client patronizingly,

  • rolling their eyes at clients who work through things differently than they advise, or

  • giving clients a "kick in the pants" for taking "too long" to do something,

I don't believe someone who respects your individual sovereignty, i.e. your right, responsibility and basic ability to govern your own life well, will ever engage with you in that way.

You know:

  • That consultant who's always "amazed at the nonsense" their clients do, in posts on LinkedIn.

  • That designer who trolls other people's posts with comments about how little those posting actually know about design.

  • That coach who is always on you, calling it "accountability", pushing you "past your fears" on his or her schedule, with a slight edge of exasperation about how far along you "should" be by now.

  • Worse, those professionals who write long posts or business cases about those they've "saved from themselves", so the person can never forget where they would be without them. Sigh.

I can only speak for myself, but my clients come to me for what I'm good at, not for what they're bad at.  We are all a work in progress in some area.  In fact, there are some areas we may choose to stop pursuing, in favour of our strengths.

Regardless, what my clients are not great at is not a part of our working narrative.  It is my clients' very greatness, simply in their beings, that makes our joint success possible.

I always say, take what works and leave what doesn't, so if this doesn't sit well with you, let it pass you by. If, however, this resonates, I hope you honour what it awakens in you. I rarely write business cases, but when I do, you always see my clients' strengths in them clearly.
