Value Your Time & Energy

As an entrepreneur, your time and energy are optimally spent on paid clients. This keeps you in business and makes time to support and empower the right clients. This also makes time to reap the rewards of your hard work - R&R, a bath (joke), rediscover friends - have some fun. The same applies to social media.

Even if you're a social media consultant, your core business is your clients' social media, not your own. How do you do more in less time on your social media community? Strategy. Strategy keeps you focused, avoids overwhelm and builds credibility.

Let's Make Social Media KPI E.A.S.Y.

You only know if your strategy works if you can measure success. Measuring success, however, doesn't have to be complicated. Here's the E.A.S.Y. - Effective, Actionable, Simple, Yours - version.

There are a number of amazing tools that help you automate, schedule and monitor your social media activity. HootSuite, SproutSocial, Salesforce and ConstantContact, among others. They're all great but, unless you know that you're looking for, they are overwhelming. What, then, are you looking for? These tools give you information on "metrics" such as:

  • Number of followers
  • Engagement rates
  • Shared posts, who shares posts

Metrics are not your key performance indicators (KPI). Metrics are the measure of your success in achieving your desired KPI. Your KPI are your goals. At first you may not have an idea of your desired numbers, but as time goes by you'll start seeing trends. Here's one example of how to simplify social media performance measurement.

Simplify & Stay On-Schedule

The key to making this work is to include it in your existing routine in a way that is not intrusive. If you have 30 minutes to 1 hour every quarter, and you've set up a table similar to this one, you should be on track. It is important that anything you add to your schedule either:

  1. Saves time, money or energy,
  2. Makes money, or
  3. Increase visibility and credibility.

Be it social media or something else. Remember, that's 1 hour that should save you at least 10 hours each month. Let me know how it works for you!
